11 Best Places to Buy Desks for Your Home Office

best places to buy desks

One of my best friends just crossed a huge goal off her bucket list: she bought a house! It’s been a nail-biting process watching her make offers on homes and navigate the ultra-competitive real estate market in California, but she finally scored her own home and it’s adorable. I’ll be helping her with some of the design choices and several of my recent post have been written by her request – such as pretty ceiling fans and the best capiz chandeliers.

Today, I’m sharing another one inspired by her new home – because she’ll be setting up a little home office on one side of her bedroom and that means: she needs a desk! She’s not alone, more people are working from home than ever before and so you might be in the market, too, for that perfect desk. I’ve felt fortunate to work from home for years and love my own desk that I purchased five years ago. The right desk can really shape your whole work space, so it’s an important investment for your home office.

Let’s take a look at the best places to grab that perfect desk:

11 Best Places to Buy a Desk:

These are the stores I check first when I’m looking for a desk or helping someone else pick out a desk. The reasons I shop these stores first is because they have a great selection, high quality items, and great customer service. There is always the possibility that something will get damaged in shipping or simply won’t work in person. You need to shop a store that is going to assist you in returning it for a refund or to exchange it for something else.

You can click the links below to go straight to the desks on any of these sites or scroll down for specific desk recommendations from each of these stores!

  1. Cost Plus World Market – I love this store. They have a very cool, global style while staying very affordable. I have many pieces from Cost Plus and they’re all great quality. their desk selection ranges from really solid wood pieces to smaller, secretary desks that could fit in even the smallest nook.
  2. Pottery Barn Teen – The PB Teen store has the same great style as Pottery Barn, but often for a fraction of the price. I got my office desk from here and it’s very well made and beautiful. It’s so heavy, we can only move it a few feet with two people. In fact, my husband has asked me to never move it again – lol. The PB shipping is also very good, they’ll bring it in and unwrap it wherever you’d like it to go. They have a great selection of pieces to choose from, including small space desks, smart desks, storage desks, and more. Pottery Barn also has a gorgeous collection of desks that are made to last and are really substantial. Many of their designs are executive level desks.
  3. Ashley Furniture – I love Ashley Furniture. They check all the boxes. Their desk selection has computer desks, corner desks, standing desks, and traditional desks in all types of finishes and styles. They are also very affordable. Their customer service is excellent and everything I’ve bought from them has been delivered in excellent condition.
  4. Office Depot/Office Max – Office Depot might have the largest desk chair selection in store I’ve ever seen. My kids love hopping from one chair to the next and trying them all out. They also have a great desk selection, with even more online. They offer all types of desk options, including standing desks, executive desks, student desks, active work stations, portable desks, commercial grade desks and much more. If you’re outfitting a large office space, check this place out, but it’s still a great choice if you are looking for something specific for your home office.
  5. West Elm – Gotta love West Elm’s modern, minimalistic style. Their desk collection has such a cool, mid-century modern feel to it. I love one of the L-shaped desks in particular, which I’ll share below, but they have so many great options for adults, kids and even commercial spaces. From mini desks and parson’s desks to desks built into bookshelves and executive desks, there’s a desk for everyone at West Elm.
  6. Target – Target has an incredible collection of desks, some of them part of capsule collections designed by Studio McGee and Opalhouse. I love how easy it is to shop their options on their desk page. Some of the options include: gaming desks, standing desks, L-shaped desks, corner desks, writing desks, secretary desks and more. Also, you can’t beat the prices, you could easily get a desk in almost any price point here and have it be a great piece.
  7. Overstock – Overstock has been one of my go-tos for affordable home decor for years. I’ve bought so many things from them over the years. I really appreciate their super easy customer service, too, when things just aren’t a fit. Their desk collection is awesome, with so many cool decisions. Wait until you see the chic, emerald green desk from them below. Love it. You can also find computer desks, gaming desks, l-shaped desks, workstation desks, hutch desks and much more here.
  8. CB2 – This is the most fashion-forward, on-trend desk selection on this list. With desks made from marble or one piece of wood, adorned with gold legs or upholstered shelves, or even mixing materials, such as wood and marble, these are showstopping, beautifully designed pieces that will get noticed. Some of them seem almost too pretty to hide in a room – but they would certainly bring a smile to your face whenever you walked in.
  9. Amazon – Can’t forget good ‘ol Amazon. They have a wealth of options for your next desk, easily searched by brand, reviews, price, furniture style, drawer type, desk shape, desk size, desk top material, furniture finish, and more. Many of them are also going to ship free with Amazon prime, which is awesome. Now, read the fine print for returns on anything you choose. Not all retailers have to offer free shipping and sending back a desk could put you back a couple hundred dollars. Still, it doesn’t hurt to browse and see what you find.
  10. Anthropologie – I think Anthropologie has some of the most unique furniture I’ve ever seen. I’ve loved everything I’ve bought from them. Their pieces are an investment, but how often do you really plan to buy a desk? I have found that the pieces I’ve bought from Anthropologie are like heirloom pieces I’ll hand down and the ones I’ve needed to sell often sell for a premium. Their desk collection is full of art-like desks with bone inlay details, gold hardware, handcarved wood, intricate details and designs that you won’t find anywhere else. Truly beautiful.
  11. Home Depot – Home Depot has definitely been stepping up their furniture game online. And, since many of us live near a HD, it makes for easier returns if it doesn’t work out. Their desk collection is full of solid pieces that are pretty affordable (comparatively). Their options include executive desks, gaming desks, L-shaped desks, standing desks, floating desks, corner desks and much more, in all types of styles, finishes and styles.
