Let’s keep it real: kids clothes can be expensive.
There are lots of ways to save money here, and all are really great options, such as consignment shops, hand-me-downs, or discount shops.
But, what if there are certain brands or types of clothes that you want to buy for your kid without going into sticker shock on the price?
What if I told you you could get high quality baby, toddler, and kids clothes for consignment store or Target sale rack – prices?
I do it ALL the time.
You would probably not believe the prices that I am able to get on name brands like Tea Collection, Hudson for Baby, Gymboree, Little Me, Pippa & Julie, and even activewear sets by Adidas, Nike, Puma, and more.
Let’s start with one of my absolute all-time favorite kid stores: GYMBOREE.
Here’s what I love about Gymboree:
1. Durable: Come on, now. Kids are tough on their clothes. I don’t appreciate children’s clothing that falls apart before they outgrow it. This almost never happens with Gymboree clothes. In fact, it is usually still in excellent condition when I store it or pass it down. It washes well, wears well, and gives you a lot of bang for your buck.
2. Adorable: We all have our own preferences with kids clothes. Want a mini-me? Want tutus, glitter, bows, and sparkles? Want hip and urban? Pretty much whatever style you are going for – Gymboree has something for you. Now that my son is getting more opinions on his clothes, it’s also a safe place to go where we both leave happy. Amen.
3. Affordable: Ding! Ding! Ding! There it is, folks! The winning word! No matter how cute it is, it goes BACK ON THE RACK if it is more expensive than what I would spend on myself (and that’s not much – let’s be honest).
4. Comfortable: Gymboree only bows down to one master – kids. So, everything they do is usually pretty well designed for children. Fabrics are soft, usually have some stretch, fit well, have thinkgs like expandable waistlines, soft linings, and my personal favorite – NO TAGS on the neck!!
But, if you’re just looking at the regular price, you are not believing me right now. I even have people tell me, “Oh, I don’t shop there. It’s too expensive.”
I don’t blame you, I never pay full price and neither should you.
So, here’s how you do get high-end kids clothes for consignment store prices:
Right now, Gymboree is offering 50% off EVERYTHING IN THEIR STORE up to size 3T and 40% off everything else.
PLUS – there are coupons out there for an additional 20% off or 25$ off a purchase of 100$.
LAYER THOSE COUPONS UP RIGHT NICE, PEOPLE.
Let’s do some quick math on just one of the pieces I bought today at my local Gymboree store.
SIDEBAR: I do prefer to go in person to check the softness and also stretch in the clothing. I won’t put my kids in something cute if they can’t move freely or are scratching at the material all day. Not worth it. Also, this keeps the stores alive and thriving in your neighborhood.
DISCLAIMER: HOWEVER, I will tell you that you will find more inventory online. The stores will order any of it for you from the store and ship it to your house, but this can be an extra hassle to wait.
Alright, back to the good stuff. Take a look at this zoomed in image of my receipt. The red lines are the price I paid, the yellow underlines are the original price, and the black brackets shows the different discounts.
Now, with fall merchandise, such as jackets and pants, this is good prices.
What about summer when they’re wearing rompers and shorts? Take a look at another receipt from July of this year:
I don’t even need to point anything else out here except that I spent about 12 bucks and walked out with three brand new, super durable, adorable, comfortable outfits.
So, what are the best things to get at Gymboree?
Well, I really think the basics, such as t-shirts, stretch pants, etc., are easy to take care of with a line like Cat & Jack at Target, etc.
I really love Gymboree for those special outfit-making pieces, complete outfit sets, or the pieces you need to be most durable (shorts, pants, jackets, etc.).
This is a really great time to get yo’ shopping on. Let me know what you get!
Have a fabulous day,
NOTE: I did not receive any compensation, additional coupons or discounts, from Gymboree or its affiliates to write this post. I am sharing this information with you because I think Gymboree is fabulous.
