As I get older, I don’t fall for nearly as many skin care ads or skin care device marketing videos. If the person using that new, cool facial toner device is a fresh-faced 20-something without a hint of aging, I keep scrolling. Sure, it’s possible that those products really work, but I’ve grown tired of throwing my hard-earned money at products that don’t do anything. Especially when there are some skin care tools you can use at home that do get results, and I know because I use them.
I’ve been lucky to try out quite a few new products over the years. One of my favorite parts of running this blog is getting to learn about new brands and products that I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise. This also gives me a great comparison between the ones that just look cool and the ones that actually get results. There are five of them that I regularly use, and see a difference in my skin when I am consistent with them. So, I thought it would be fun to round-up my favorites and share them all in one post.
My Favorite Skin Care Devices & My Skin Story:
For the record, I’m over 40, I have never done fillers or any type of plastic surgery (not against it, just haven’t done it – also hate needles). I also haven’t invested in microdermabrasion or any super fancy facials yet. I’d love to try them, but they’re just out of my budget at the moment. My routine consists of day and night skin care products for my skin type, which is sensitive, prone to the occasional breakouts, and occasional inflammation and redness, with light signs of aging. I also love using the skin care devices I’m going to share in this post, which I feel keeps my skin hydrated and looking healthy. I share this so you can gauge if my recommendations might be something you’d like to try.
With that said, let’s check out some skin care tools! I made a little video that I shared on Instagram that shows you my faves live and then keep scrolling for more info:

1. CurrentBody Red LED Light Face Mask:
This is my favorite skin care tool in my arsenal. It’s painless, only takes 10 minutes, and gives me an opportunity to relax. Sure, you can try to do things while wearing it, but the red lights distort my vision, so to me, it’s just easier to use this as a relaxing time. I try to use it weekly. When fine lines become more noticeable or I’m breaking out more than usual, I increase my usage. It’s safe to use daily, if that’s your jam, too.
If we want to get technical, this mask is 31% more powerful than other LED face masks on the market. It’s made of a patented flexible silicone with 132 LED bulbs deliver 30 mW/cm² for a powerful 10-minute treatment (yeah, I cut and pasted that stat from their site, lol). The red light stimulates the cells to create more collagen, which declines as we age. It also boosts blood circulation, which makes skin plumper and healthier.
There are other brands that make these LED masks, this just happens to be the one that I have. I like the flexible, soft silicone. I don’t love the velcro strap on the back, because my hair gets stuck to it sometimes. Other than that, I’ve been using this for awhile and I really like it. It’s also fun to see my kids and husband’s reaction when I come out wearing it, looking like some kind of horror movie character. Here’s actual footage of me in the mask in a dark living room watching TV when my husband came downstairs. I though he was going to have a heart attack, lol.

2. PMD Clean Facial Cleansing Brush:
I did not expect to like this thing as much as I do. I’ve had other facial cleansers over the years and this is my all-time absolute favorite. Here’s why I love it so much: the vibrations of the brush are amazing for lymphatic drainage. My face gets really puffy in areas like under my eyes, my cheeks, and my jawline. The combination of the vibrations with the silicone brush are like magic. I use this when washing my face in the morning and I notice an immediate decrease in puffiness and swelling in my face when I use it. I really love this thing.

3. NuFace Facial Toner:
Here’s another facial device I like using. This is a facial toner, it does zap a little, so be sure to read my full blog post where I talk about how to use it so it doesn’t hurt. There’s a cream that comes with it that you’ll want to use and then make sure to wash your face right after to prevent breakouts. Otherwise, this little guy packs a punch and I really noticed a difference in my jawline when using it regularly. Around 40, I started to see my jawline change in a way that I was not comfortable with. I’ve always had a nice, defined jawline and that seemed to change overnight. This toner, along with my PMD clean, helped me achieve noticeable results in the tone of my jawline. Sure, it doesn’t look like I’m 25 – but nothing does and there isn’t a device on the market that is going to turn back the clock that much. It has, however, helped me restore my facial tone to a point that I feel more confident about it. I’m okay looking older, and I’m coming to accept that I’m going to age, but I also want to keep my skin and facial tone as healthy as possible as the inevitable happens.

4. CurrentBody LED Eye Perfector:
After falling in love with the CB LED mask, they released this eye version and I had to have it! This focuses on the eye area, which we all know is one of the first places that signs of aging show. I have hooded, almond shaped eyes, which can show signs of aging more than other eye shapes. This eye perfector LED mask is my new favorite gadget. And, bonus points, it doesn’t distort my vision as much as the full-face version, so I can wear this thing while folding laundry, or making beds, or just multi-task like most of us do.
To use it, it’s just a short 3-minute timed treatment with 80 LEDs deliver 61.59 mW/cm². It helps with crow’s feet, undereye wrinkles and bags, brows, and between the eyes – those dreaded 11s! Plus, it’s painless, comfortable to wear, and actually helps. It’s a bit more affordable than the full face one, so it could be a great starting point to see how you like wearing LED masks and to see how your skin responds to them.

5. Skin Gym Facial Steamer:
If you’ve ever gotten a facial, you know that the first thing they do is steam your face. They run that thing for awhile and it just helps to purge the skin, pulling out everything buried in your pores, and then allows the pores to soak up all the skin care goodness. Add in facial massage, great products, exfoliation, and you walk out with glowing, healthy skin. BTW, if you’re looking for a good, affordable facial, I like Massage Envy. It’s $69 a month for either a one-hour massage or one-hour facial. This is a bargain considering many facials are over $200.
Or, get that spa experience at home whenever you want with this bad boy. In the winter, when it’s cold, my skin gets really dry. I used this steamer quite a bit this past winter to add that moisture back into my skin. Following this with products loaded with hydrating ingredients was what my skin needed to get the fresh bounce back. My exact steamer is no longer available, but this one is very similar.

What do you think? Do you have any of these skin care tools? What is your favorite thing to use for over 40 skin? I love asking women what their favorite skin products are. You’d be surprised what you can learn! One woman in my family who looks incredible has used pure aloe vera gel on her face every night for decades. She even bought me some and I use it when my skin gets dry. Another woman I asked said she dabs olive oil on her skin! It doesn’t have to be complicated, painful, or expensive to take care of your skin. That’s why I share a lot of affordable skin care that I use, including Amazon skin care favorites like I shared in this post.
I’d love to hear your tips and tricks, too. Share them in the comments below!
Have a fabulous day,
