Is the NuFace worth it? I tried it to find out.

nuface mini

It’s no secret I love trying out new skincare and devices, so when I had the opportunity to get my hands on the infamous NuFace Mini, I was very excited. The NuFace uses non-invasive, low level microcurrent technology to send gentle waves through the skin to the facial muscles underneath. It mimic’s the body’s natural current to  body’s natural current to address a variety of skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles.

So, basically, it’s like exercise for the face. But, there’s also an added bonus to using the NuFace that I didn’t anticipate when I first started using. If you’ve been curious if the NuFace is worth it, stay tuned. I’ve been using it almost daily for weeks and I’m about to share the tea, including an exclusive coupon code for you.

What is the NuFace Mini?

There are several different NuFace devices on the market now, but I have the NuFace Mini, as well as the NuFace Aqua Gel (which comes with it). Designed to be used over your whole face and neck, the NuFace is considered preventative skin care, because it can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and help tone and shape the face without things like needles, lasers, and other painful and invasive methods. I’m all about preventative measures. In fact, I’m in my 40s and I haven’t resorted to invasive procedures yet, and my skin looks pretty good. I’m going to keep using things like the NuFace, red light face masks, exfoliators, and great skin care as long as I can.

The NuFace Mini has two metal orbs that deliver the microcurrent technology, which has a maximum output of 335 microamps. It’s also compact, portable, and fits easily in the palm of your hand. I found it very comfortable to hold and use without any issues.

The NuFace Mini stimulates areas of your face and neck with the microcurrents to improve facial contour, tone, and improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles in just 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Read: NuFace gives you that snatched jawline we all want and that we lose with age. I used to have a jawline and cheekbones that could cut glass and things have definitely softened as I’ve gotten older. I’m really trying to hold off on that melted ice cream cone look that happens as we get older and skin loses it’s tone. If you’re starting to see sagging skin, creating the appearance of jowls, especially around your chin, jawine and neck area, then you will love this. If you’ve ever tried facial exercises and seen how that can improve facial tone, then you understand what the NuFace can do for your face.

How To Use the NuFace Mini:

I started by reading the included instructions, which has a handy picture that guides you through where to place the NuFace. Per usual, you want to start in the middle of your face and work outwards and up. Always work in the direction you want your skin to go – which is out and up, not sagging down toward your neck. Use the NuFace in the same way, similar to how you might use an ice roller or rose quartz roller (both of which I love as well).

You want to slather on the Aqua Gel, which is a thicker, almost jelly-like, hyaluronic acid gel that you will put generously over half of your face before doing the NuFace on that side. Then apply the gel to the other side and run the NuFace on that side, too, so you’re even. I have seen people that are only doing half of their face to see a difference and mama ain’t got time for that. The people I see doing that are much younger than me and I am not interested in half my face looking like pulled taffy, so I just did my whole face.

Use the NuFace for about 2.5 minutes on each side, although if you go over, you can just restart it and use it longer. It’s very easy to turn on and off.

Does the NuFace Mini Hurt?

Using the NuFace Mini should not be painful, however, I have very sensitive skin and I did notice that when I didn’t have enough gel, I could feel a little zing. That’s the reason why I put the gel on one side first, use the NuFace, and then do the other side. The gel helps the NuFace to glide smoothly, so it doesn’t catch or drag on your skin and it will start to dry the longer it is on your skin. Also, it protects you from feeling the microcurrents. I don’t feel them when I have enough gel, but when the gel has dried, I have felt them. It’s not painful, per se, but it also doesn’t feel good and so I try to avoid that as much as possible.

Does the NuFace Mini work?

The million dollar question – is it worth it? I am very surprised with how much I like using the NuFace, as well as the results I am seeing. I definitely notice more tone in my jawline and more cheekbone definition when I consistently use it.

But, I have also found the NuFace to be a fantastic way to do a lymphatic massage on my face. It feels amazing on my puffy face, especially when my Sjogren’s is flaring up and my sinuses are inflamed. My face can get rather puffy from inflammation and this really helps to reduce my overall puffiness and improve lymphatic drainage. This part of using the NuFace has actually been my favorite. If you are a fan of facials, you will love this aspect of using the NuFace, but if you also have a puffy face or lots of inflammation in your face, you’ll see great results from using the NuFace, too.

I made a short video for my Instagram where you can see the NuFace up close. Check it out here:

Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage for the Face:

If you’re new to the idea of lymphatic massage, the lymphatic system is a crucial part of your immune system. Our bodies have a network of hundreds of lymph nodes which drain fluid called lymph and transport it back into your bloodstream. It also removes bodily waste and carries white blood cells that help prevent infection.

We can get obstructions in our lymphatic system, either from infection, fighting off an infection, or having a condition like an autoimmune disease which slows down our lymphatic system. This causes fluid to start building up in these areas, and we’ll see it in the form of puffier skin. This is why massage therapy can be so powerful. It helps to get the lymphatic system moving again, draining properly and removing pockets of build-up throughout our body.

Lymphatic massage on our face does the same thing. If you have a puffy, dull complexion, you likely have fluid buildup in your face. Here are some of the benefits to using lymphatic massage on your face:

  • Reduces swelling and/or puffiness
  • Drains toxins from your skin
  • Improves circulation
  • Gives skin a heathier glow
  • Reduces inflammation in sinuses and eustachian tubes caused by fluid build-up

Basically, think of how energized and fresh your skin and body feels after a hard workout or after dry brushing and that is what happens to your face after a good lymphatic massage. The NuFace Mini makes it super easy to get this kind of targeted lymphatic massage on your face and it’s been my favorite part of using it.

Who should not use the NuFace Mini?

The NuFace technology should not be used by women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or people who are 18 and under. Honestly, anyone who doesn’t need facial toning doesn’t need to use it, either. There’s a very specific demographic that can benefit from the microcurrent technology and outside of that, I’m not sure how useful it would be.
