6 Cooling Items To Survive This Hot Summer

It was 107 today. I wish I could say that’s the hottest it’s been here, but its not. It’s been savagely hot – the kind of hot where your skin literally feels like it’s sizzling when you go outside. There was a day last week when it was just 98 degrees, and it felt like a relief – even though that’s still unbelievably hot.

I don’t know about you, but the older I get, the more intolerant I am of heat. If I’m outside for even a couple of hours on a super hot day, it takes me a day or two to recover. So, I’ve been looking for products that will help me stay cool this summer as much as possible, from cooling pajamas that actually feel amazing, to cooling towels that get me through hot yoga without passing out.

6 Cooling Stuff To Survive the Summer:

Cooling Pajamas – This cooling pajama set feels amazing. They are made of bamboo viscose and are so soft and lightweight. The material really does feel cool against your skin. It’s not a miracle cure for night sweats, but they certainly help. Comes in a set and lots of colors.

Handheld Fan – This little portable fan folds up small enough to fit into a small purse. My kids love it so much, they use it all the time when it’s warm. If you’re out in intense heat for a long time, you may want a larger fan, but for short periods of time, this is good to have on hand.

Cooling Towels – This 4 pack of cooling towels is awesome. I have to have one of these when I do yoga or when I’m out in the heat for awhile. There’s a lot of color options, too.

Portable Misting Fan – With thousands of great reviews, this portable misting fan is a bestseller for a reason. It works! Rechargeable, battery operated, and has a neck strap so you don’t have to hold it. Great if you’re sitting outside at those summer soccer games!

Cooling Blanket – This thing is on such a good deal and looks amazing! Great for night sweats, hot flashes, or the hot summer nights.

Cooling Sheets – Hundreds of thousands of reviews and an incredible price point, plus a zillion colors to choose from, make these cooling sheets a no brainer! Worth a shot, right?

More Tips for Staying Cool:

Besides things you can buy, there’s other ways to stay cool that don’t cost any money. Remember to drink more water. A lot more. Also, be aware of diuretics that leach water from your body, like coffee, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks. I love my coffees, but I stop drinking coffee by noon and focus on water, just to make sure I’m getting enough. Find the reusable water tumbler that works for you and keep it full all the time. I really love this one. The lid fully locks and I don’t spill water all over when I’m bending down to pick things up while doing mom life.

Also, limit time outside during the hottest part of the day whenever possible and limit outdoor workouts to cooler hours of the day, like first thing in the morning or evening. If you do have to be out there, keep a cold towel on your neck, drink water, wear clothes that are lightweight and let your body breathe. Basically, anything you can do to keep your internal temperature down.

Plus, be careful about sitting in cars in this heat. If the car is idling, the air will not be as cool, and heatstroke can happen much faster than you think. It also makes me so sad to see the news articles in the summer of all the heat-related and car-related tragedies. Truly awful and avoidable.

Lastly, remember that your furry pets are sensitive to heat, too. I was out back with my dogs the other day and after just a couple minutes, I saw my older dog lifting her paws up one at a time and I realized that even being in the backyard for a couple minutes was too much for her. The backyard cement was too hot for her. So, consider your furbabies when choosing times to take them outside to go to the bathroom, go for a walk, or even just to have them play.

I hope you find what works for you and you’re able to stay a little comfortable this summer. If you have great tips for staying cool, please share them below. I know we all feel like we’re being cremated. I’m finding it harder and harder to deal with the heat as I get older, too. I daydream of moving closer to the coast where I won’t feel like a rotisserie chicken.
