Japan is known for having a wide variety of delicious and unique snacks and treats. The best way to try out as many of these as possible is in curated snack boxes that will give you a taste of Japan sent straight to your door. My daughter has been watching videos on kids YouTube about Japan and their many treats, so when I had the chance to try out two well-known Japanese snack boxes: TokyoTreat and Sakuraco, I was all in!
I’m going to share everything that was in our most recent snack boxes, so you can see for yourself how much Japanese goodness is packed into each one of these. I was shocked at how many snacks are included, especially compared to other snack boxes that I’ve tried. Plus, the box designs are colorful and beautiful, which would make them a really great gift idea for the foodie or Japanese snack lover in your life. Or, it would make for a great inclusion for a homeschool or classroom activity where you’re studying Japan.
Let’s take a look inside!
Japanese Snack Boxes: TokyoTreat and Sakuraco
Seriously, so cool! My kids sat at the table for at least an hour, looking over the little booklets that are so colorful and fun and then checking out all the treats. They’re not usually super adventurous foodies, but there was something so mesmerizing about the Japanese characters and the look and feel of these new snacks, so when I tell you that they all tried absolutely every single snack – I am not kidding! It was amazing to watch!
1. TokyoTreat: Japanese Treat Box
This box was absolutely packed with snacks. I was genuinely shocked at how much they fit into this colorful box. The description on the website says this is the biggest Japanese snack box on the planet, with each box includes 20 full-size seasonal & limited-edition snacks from Japan. I can tell you they are not kidding. And, all of the snacks were so unique, from chip type snacks to little chocolate biscuits and everything in between. TokyoTreat is so fun to open and really offers a delicious range of options.
How much does TokyoTreat cost?
The cost depends on the plan that you choose, with the most expensive cost being a month by month box at $37.50 and a 12 month plan bringing your cost down to just $32.50 a box.
TokyoTreat is like taking a tour through Tokyo and grabbing every single colorful and fun snack that you come across. A true feast of Japanese snacks and treats.

2. Sakuraco: Authentic Japanese Snack Box
Sakuraco has a different vibe, with a really stunning presentation. The deep reddish, purple box is etched with cherry blossoms. Opening it is like opening an expensive gift and inside you find a bunch of teas and tea service style treats and snacks. Inside the box was a gorgeous card that gave insight into where the snacks were from and this is part of the Sakuraco experience. Every box takes you on a little tour through a new corner of Japan through authentic food and tea.
My kids loved the custom snack plate that came in the box and they used it to put each of their new treats on while they tried it. In addition to unique snacks, Sakuraco also seeks to work with many Japanese family-owned businesses who have dedicated their lives to the art of snack making. I always try to support small businesses whenever possible and love that Sakuraco has this mission as well.
How much does Sakuraco cost?
The price is identical to TokyoTreat, with the most expensive cost being a month by month box at $37.50 and a 12 month plan bringing your cost down to just $32.50 a box.
Sakuraco has a more refined, elegant look and feel to the box and presentation. I loved the culture guide and regional aspect of the box. It was a great learning experience for all of us.
