The hostess gift can be a tricky one. For one thing, you may not know what they already have, especially if you’ve never been to their house before. But, second, you also don’t want to show up empty handed when this person has spent hours, maybe even days, preparing to host you (and maybe a lot of people) for their gathering. Showing up with something thoughtful in hand is always an appreciated gesture.
For me, my go-to hostess gifts are usually deluxe versions of every day items we all use. We all use vanilla extract, but do we splurge on the absolute best one? Not if you’re me. I use a lot of vanilla extract. I can’t drain my retirement to always use the expensive one. Same goes for olive oil, and chocolates, and everything else consumable. And, even if they do love the finer things, then they’ll appreciate that you are gifting them the very best.
These gifts also come with the added bonus of being easy to wrap. No bag or wrapping paper needed. Just grab a beautiful red satin ribbon or green velvet ribbon, wrap it around it, tie a pretty bow, and you are good to go.
Best Hostess Gifts:
For those of you that are saying, “Why can’t I take a bottle of wine?” Well, coming from someone who doesn’t really drink wine and has a cabinet full of it, I like to be more creative than that. And, if they’re hosting a large dinner or party, they’re likely to get several bottles already. You can certainly pick up your favorite and call it a day, but if you’re looking for some alternatives to wine, you might like this list. Also, if you’re looking for a great ribbon to wrap around your gift, I like this Red Satin Ribbon and this gorgeous, luxe Green Velvet Ribbon .

Fabbri Amarena Wild Cherries in Syrup – I love giving these wild cherries as a hostess gift. The jar is beautiful, especially with a big red or green bow wrapped around it and the cherries are delicious. They are made from wild cherries in Italy that are candied in wild cherry syrup. They can be spooned over a scoop of ice cream or whatever they like for an easy, fan favorite dessert. It’s an unusual gift they’re unlikely to have, too, which is always fun to give someone.
- Neilsen Massey Vanilla Extract – This is the creme de la creme of vanilla extract. It’s expensive, but worth it. It really elevates the taste of things like fresh whipped cream, vanilla simple syrup for coffees, and more. It’s a splurge for most of us, but we all use vanilla extract, so that’s what makes it a universally great gift.

Desert Miracle Cold Pressed Polyphenol Rich Moroccan Olive Oil –Great olive oil can be pricey and this one is also packaged beautifully. But, you can always tell when an EVOO is high quality. This one has amazing reviews and is the first cold pressed EVOO from Morocco. Wrap a big red satin bow around it and call it good.
- La Jolie Muse Candles – I love these candles. They come in a gorgeous glass jar that can be washed and reused after the candle has been fully burned and the smells are amazing. If you know their home decor, choose a color that will go well with it. If you don’t know, the vanilla bomb is always a safe bet because it smells great and it’s a neutral enough color to go anywhere.
- Bees Knees Infused Honey – Almost everyone loves honey and these infused honeys add a little extra somethin’ somethin’ to whatever you’re making. I’ve bought several flavors and they’re all delcious. This box set is easy to wrap or put a bow around and is sure to become their new favorite condiment.
- 2 Piece Christmas Shaped Cutting Boards – Made from acacia wood, these adorable Christmas themed cutting boards would be so cute with a folded dish towel and Christmas scented hand soap on top and wrapped in a big red bow. Split the pair to make two separate hostess gifts for all those parties you’re invited to.
- Michel Design Works 3-Piece Holiday Soap Collection – These are beautiful hand soaps that can be split and given as a hostess gift one at a time. The bottle is already beautifully designed, so add a big juicy green or red bow around it and you’re ready to go.
- Bonnie & Pop Chocolate Wreath – The presentation here is already enough, but the wreath opens to reveal mouth wateringly beautiful chocolate truffles. Sign. Me. Up. And, if you can’t get your hands on a Chocolate Wreath, any boxed chocolates will do.
- The Original Williams Sonoma Peppermint Bark – This is the peppermint bark of all peppermint bark. The tin also makes it so easy to wrap a bow and gift. You can buy it in different flavors and sizes, but this one is $30 and the perfect hostess gift.
All of these ideas are on the more affordable side. If you wanted a very high-end gift, here are a few more ideas.
High End, Luxurious Hostess Gift Ideas:
So, you really want to splurge and get them something they’ll remember. Or, maybe you know a bit more about how much they’ve put into this event and you want to show up with a hostess gift that recognizes that. Either way, here are some luxurious, high end hostess gift ideas.
10. Crystal Vase – A crystal vase goes with everything. This one, in particular, is so beautifully cut and designed. Gorgeous.
11. Marble and Brass Wine Cellar – So, you aren’t getting them wine, but you can get them a drink cellar. This can be used for anything that fits to keep it nice and cold while it’s on display.
12 Wood and Marble Footed Fruit Bowl – This comes with the added bonus of being wrapped by Crate & Barrel. They do such a great job of packaging their items. It makes for a very exciting unboxing. The quality of this piece will also last a very long time.
