Last month, I introduced the blog’s new contributing writer, Stephanie, and her post, “What is Astrology?” So many of us are fascinated by the ideas we can learn about ourselves and others from zodiac signs and things like sun, moon, and rising signs.

If you’ve ever had questions about your sun, moon and rising signs and what this means about you, Stephanie is back this month to give us all the details.

What We Can Learn from Sun Signs:

When most people get into astrology, they dig into their sun sign. They find their strengths and weaknesses, and basically use the sun sign to define them.

But, what if I told you that you are so much more than your sun sign, and even though you might be a Pisces, another Pisces may behave very differently from you because of their chart.

What Does Your Sun Sign Say About You?

Each celestial body falls into a certain sign depending on your personal chart. They help us discover more about ourselves, how we behave in relationships, and even our life purpose.

Today, we will just scratch the surface on three different aspects of your chart that greatly impact you and what they might mean.

What is Your Sun Sign?

Your sun sign is based upon the day you were born. The Sun sign represents our conscious mind. This is how we feel we are projecting to the world. It is our basic identity and represents the “ego” within. It is basically how we see ourselves. We may describe ourselves using the strengths or weaknesses of each sign without knowing it. This sign is mainly how we perceive ourselves, but not necessarily how others see us.

It also symbolizes our energy and vitality of how we move in the world. Each sign is connected to an elemental property (air, earth, fire, and water) that helps us determine the type of energy you need to feel good.

If Your Sun is an Air Sign:

Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius:

…you love to express yourself intellectually and often recharge in social settings.

If Your Sun is a Fire Sign:

Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius

…you are motivated by inspirations and aspirations and recharge through physical activity and by pursuing your goals.

If Your Sun is an Earth Sign:

Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn:

…you are motivated by material needs and practicality and recharge through working with the physical world, being productive, and feeding your senses.

If Your Sun is a Water Sign:

Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces:

…you are motivated by deep emotional desires and recharge through emotional experiences and intimate involvement with people.

Sun Sign Characteristics:

You can also discover certain strengths or weaknesses based on your specific sun sign.

Look for the sign based on your birthdate to discover more below.

What is Your Rising Sign?

Your rising sign is also called your ascendant sign. This is your social personality and how you are perceived by people, especially when you first meet them. This is also representative of your physical body as well as outward style.  Once again, in order to calculate your rising sign you will need to know your time of birth and location. If you have it, check out this Rising Sign Calculator.

Your rising sign is really about what drives you, how your body language is perceived, and how you react socially. The descriptions below are also how others perceive you.

If your rising is in an air sign:

Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius:

…you are mentally quick, inquisitive, friendly, and prefer to express yourself verbally. You often approach life with the desire to understand the meaning of what or whom you encounter.

If your rising is in a fire sign:

Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius:

…you are action-oriented, confident, and often blunt. You often have great vitality and physical energy, especially when striving to make your mark in the world.

If your rising is in an earth sign:

Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn:

…you are matter-of-fact and tend to focus on the material world. You often have a steadfast approach to life that can be a grounding force for many.

If your rising is in a water sign:

Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces:

…you are sensitive, empathetic, and easily influenced by your environment. You often have an approach to life that is deeply rooted in your emotional body.
